Teenagers & Young Adults
The key to counselling young people is to provide a non -threatening environment that is jargon free, friendly and treats them with respect at all times. Young people develop emotionally, physically and socially at very different paces in a relatively short number of years, expertise in recognising and dealing with these factors appropriately is crucial to effective counselling.
The difference between counselling adults and adolescents is significant, though less widely recognised than the difference between counselling adults and children. I consider this aspect of my work to be one that I am particularly passionate about and one that I thoroughly enjoy. I am a member of The BACP Children and Young People’s Division and have a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate available for inspection.
