What Is Integrative Counselling?
I am trained in Integrative Therapy which I received at the University of East London having studied a BACP accredited course. Integrative Therapy looks to incorporate a number of different therapies, such as Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy and Narrative Therapy within an overall theoretical framework, such as Egan’s Skilled Helper Model. As research has shown, the primary factor in any counselling is the quality of the counsellor/client relationship, but Integrative Therapy seeks to use effective techniques appropriate to any given issue.
The course of your therapy will develop over time according to your needs and desires after an exploration of the themes in your life that you feel need addressing. The most effective counselling involves a collaborative approach between therapist and client based on mutual trust and understanding. Once this foundation is laid options can be explored with the length of therapy determined by the techniques chosen and the wishes of the client.
